Then the disciples came to Jesus in private and asked, “Why couldn’t we drive it out?” 20 He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” (Matthew 17:19–20)
This is Christ in His power and grace, having just healed a demon-possessed boy while His disciples were watching. In dismay, the disciples question their abilities to perform such acts with such power.
Too often we live with faith in the wrong power, having instead either a shallow power limited by our own understanding or a selfish desire for power led by our need to be emotionally reinforced.
Today, ask God for belief in His divine promise. Ask Him for a faith that’s deeper than your ability to understand. Have the courage to ask God to test you and know you and help you see each moment of your day as an opportunity to live out, in faith, His power with you and in you. Praise God for His power and promise that, although they may not yet be tangible, they are believable according to His grace.
“It is not my ability, but my response to God’s ability that counts.” —Corrie Ten Boom
